What the driving licence theory exam looks like
An exam paper has 32 questions in two parts. The first is 20 basic questions answered yes or no; the second is 12 specialist questions with three options each. You have 25 minutes for the whole thing.
You need 68 points out of 74 to pass. Questions are not worth the same - the weight depends on the question, so two mistakes among the highest-scoring ones cost more than two mistakes among the lowest-scoring ones.
How the exam differs between categories
The paper is built the same way in every category. Only the material changes: the 12 specialist questions cover the category you are applying for. Someone taking category B and someone taking category C sit the same type of exam with different content in the second part.
The theory part covers eleven driving licence categories: AM, A1, A2, A, B1, B, C1, C, D1, D and T. None of them carries the “+E” suffix - you do not prepare for B+E, C+E, C1+E, D+E or D1+E with tests, because those categories have no theory part of their own.
The tram driving permit sits outside the driving licence system. It has its own theory exam and its own pool of questions, but it is not a driving licence category.
Every higher category contains AM
Whichever category you sit, your licence will also carry the entitlement to category AM vehicles, that is a moped and a light quadricycle. This applies to every driving licence category and needs no separate exam.
Within Poland there is one more extension: categories B, C1, C, D1 and D entitle you to drive an agricultural tractor and a slow-moving vehicle, including a combination with a light trailer.
