Category B1

Driving licence theory tests, category B1

Category B1 is a quadricycle from 16 - the entry most often confused with category B in the whole table. Sit the full paper of 32 questions, free and without an account.

What category B1 covers

Category B1 entitles you to drive a quadricycle and category AM vehicles, that is a moped and a light quadricycle. It is available from 16.

That is where the list ends. A quadricycle is a separate type of vehicle, not a small passenger car.

Category B1 or B - how they differ

Category B1 does not entitle you to drive a motor vehicle with a maximum authorised mass up to 3.5 tonnes - that requires category B. This is the whole difference, and it is what decides the choice.

What remains is age: category B1 can be obtained from 16, category B from 17. Anyone who wants to drive a passenger car needs category B.

What the exam material covers in category B1

The paper is built as in the other categories: 20 basic questions and 12 specialist ones, 25 minutes in total.

The specialist part covers category B1 and is separate from the one for category B. Working through category B tests does not prepare you for the second part of the B1 exam.
