Which categories the database covers
Choosing a category at the start is not a formality - it decides which questions you will see at all.
How the set is divided
The basic part covers road traffic rules and is largely shared across categories. The specialist part is tied to a specific category - a candidate for category B gets different questions from one taking C or D.
That is why “general” study, without indicating a category, would leave you without the specialist part of the exam.
Changing the category
You change the category in the app. Progress from the previous one does not disappear - basic questions you have already answered stay accounted for.
